Your Body as your Body Guard

As soon as you wake up your brain looks around and becomes vigilant and has you in high alert. There is a part of the brain that looks for clues and dangers and how to navigate through your day. Your reptile brain looks in every corner to see what is a-safe and what is not and tells you.

You’re not even aware of this because its on automatic and you have always done it.

Your body constantly collects and pick up data all day long, and at night too for that matter.

Your body takes readings and even acts on the emotional state of others around you too, not just your own environment, thoughts and concerns.

All of this means that you are feeling al day long, although subconsciously your environment is alive with vibrations you receive and you will always have a chemical reaction to this level of High Alert and vigilant feeling, that goes onto further affect your internal organs, bacteria, cells and energy levels.

Your body is trying to get your attention with all this data. Can you feel the tension build in your stomach, in your neck and shoulders as the day wears on. The data keeps on coming in, it is relentless, all filtered via your marvelous reptile brain warning you of a potential plot against you, maybe something to mistrust or fear, your brain is there only to warn of danger and it is for you to make a conscious decision if it is worth acting upon. That’s it. Yet we don’t take the time.

Ignore these first signals and be sure that your mind will pick up the pace until it is influencing your body with signals of worry, until you really have to take notice of what these sign are telling you as you will have accidents, health issues become overwhelmed and eventually ask yourself what on earth is going on here?.

The BAD thing about the brain and body being your body guard

  1. She is always on duty as your body guard, giving you data to analyze and trying the best ways she can to get your undivided attention.
  2. You over think situations, analyze endlessly the hell out of them, not knowing why you feel so overwhelmed, with so many decisions to make and what’s right.
  3. You are becoming exhausted being ‘ON’ all the time and have no idea how to switch OFF this High Alert status. Too many ideas, plans, deadline, people to please, friend or foe, good or bad. When will it all end?

The GOOD thing about the brain and body being your body guard

  1. You get to choose what to be vigilant about and when you can chill out and turn it OFF
  2. You can relax knowing you have the best support at hand and on your side, just learn how to ask the right and best questions to your high alert self and when you can literally turn off.
  3. You can turn OFF the constant High Alert and the flight and flight mode and use that leakage of energy else where, leaving you much more awake, vital and ready to have fun. You can see clearly when it’s not yours to worry about and then – no ones opinion, judgments, bad behavior affect you or has your body on GUARD any more.

You become gently strong and so resilient and ask the right question to your own personal ‘body guard’

So many ladies have the misconception that to be in control is to be super busy and in control of everything, juggling work, home, family members, food, chores etc.

When I see the control that is needed towards food for someone, I know exactly where the issue lies in their battle for the control over their life too.

 

The very efficient vigilant Reptile part of the brain is on High Alert and if so, she needs a whole LOT of constant ENERGY to fuel all that pressure, those amount of thoughts and the need to fire fight situations, and so the body has to crave more and more fuel to restore the energy and the fuel lost in the days emergencies, and also creates a need to store extra energy as fuel on the body, something like a reserve tank to use should the re be a big emergency.

Because lets face it Every Day you wake up and it all starts over again, the status of High Alert and being ON Duty 24/7 hours of the day.

Until I discovered how to turn off my Reptile brain and get in control of the situations at hand I was exhausted and regularly craved certain foods to fuel me. I gained weight and had health issues of many sorts to resolve. My Body Guard saw to it that I held a store for that just in case event

Now thankfully I am economic with my energy use and only fight the fires that need my full attention and not everyone else’s as well… now that I feel is far more efficient.

If you want to be and look like you have it all under control and not store energy for another day’s emergencies and you’d like to be seen as a switched on woman who is well in charge of her work, her life and her body now reflects that, then to be on top of your game you need to know and do 3 NEW things

I am very happy to share this story of how Sandy becoming ‘Selfish’ made her dreams come true.

You see Sandy was listening and following her health guru’s and doing whatever they said, changing altering her food and nutrition and it all made perfect sense. She saw others get further forward and hit targets but never her.

She had a dream that she wanted to meet a guy and have a family and live happily ever after. But to enable her to meet a guy and have that family she wanted to be comfortable in her own skin.

But try as she might the weight did not shift, She had a job and life that was normal relatively stable, but there wqs something missing.

Sandy contacted me (best decision she ever made) to discover how what I did was different and why ladies were losing weight consistently, dropping dress sizes and getting their lives in order – but with as much effort she was putting in on what others told her would work, nothing, zip, nada changed for her.

She made a wise decision to work with me for 6 months and invest in herself as she committed to herself. On that day she was already changing at a very deep level.

She had put herself first.

Understanding her desires – was seeing her driving force, but she wanted more I could feel it.

We dug down and around with simple enough questions we started to find her vital missing nutrients – not food related but life related.

She was bored – with her job but it paid the basic bills, she disliked where she lived but it gave her independence and although she was alone a lot she was OK as she liked her own company. She talked and yearned to travel again, the places, people and new adventures, the freedom of traveling was a bit of a distant dream of hers.

Spending a year out after her studies had left her in debt, as well as her education debt so she needed to work now to pay those off. She was stuck between a rock and a hard place with no hope of traveling again and had the feeling she was being suffocated. I could feel that in her body – she could hardly breathe, she hardly moved, her routine and obligations to others drained her. Constant family obligations and caring for her parents and babysitting at a moment notice

Her dreams seemed to be a very selfish need and not at all practical or achievable, but she was dying and I could feel that this was a big part of the weight not shifting. I helped her understand that feeling so that she was aware of it too and what the consequences were on her body of that energy surging through her.

We took steady steps to counteract that.

She started to adopt the 5 ways that helped her take back control and watched as her body said: “thank you”.

Firstly, she admitted that she longed to go off traveling again and felt that relief of giving herself permission that she could if she wanted to.

Secondly, we had her plan create and design a perfect travel experience to dive into it fully

Next, I asked her to be very aware of how that felt in the body when she talked about traveling and the freedom she desired; We would go into that energy a lot every time we met up.

Fourthly, we discovered other areas that gave her a similar feeling in her body, putting herself first was new to her, One thing was the thought of moving house and not renting any more which was a big but exciting decision.

Fifthly, she daringly started looking for other jobs and imagining working in other places, maybe for herself becoming a home worker. And designing more around how that would feel.

Sandy moved house in a few months and changed her job, she has put her needs before those of others and as a result she lost 4 stone in the 4 months that we worked together and is still maintaining that body she craved, she has found that she loves life again and with that her body morphed and trusted here to fulfill her own needs;

I heard her laugh, heard her stories of adventures she been on and she dropped more dress sizes and has started dating.

I watched as Sandy became the woman she wanted to be in the next phase of her life.

You know that feeling when you feel so damn great and sure of yourself and what you’ree doing, that nothing nobody and no silly drama or situation can rock you. Really like water off a ducks back. Woosh. That’s inner strength.

I meet women every week who are wobbling, they are stressed out, over thinking, unfulfilled, and unsure of what they are doing, or why or what they can do or what is possible for them. I support them until they see massive physical consequences that they have had dreams about for decades.

There are about 12 steps all in all to get a woman into her priceless feeling, that’s when she is ROCK steady, feels SAFE, and bullet proof and untouched by her surroundings. Today I am sharing 3 of those steps.

Why do I do this? because I was so surprised that more people couldn’t put the puzzles together when I saw and felt the needs, wants and lack coming from them.. I understood and I lock into place the very pieces so that they never need to overeat, snack, give into cravings, or get frustrated with the physical symptoms that would not shift.

If you don’t do this right and you only look at the food aspect you miss the whole gift of the symptom.. for example I have women who just t-do the food portion with me and never did the practices I suggested in the ways I suggested and well no surprise they go back to the self sabotage and can’t move past the problem;

When it goes right I see ladies drop the need to snack, overeat and put too much on their plate and lose the weight forever, throw away this bigger cover up   clothes and go on to become who they came here to be.

So step 1 do your practice, Find your stress points and get used to feeling into what , who and when you are picking up on what triggers you. Know how it feels and be OK with it, We are meant to operate on a full range of feelings; that is what feeling alive means, and that’s is why we are here on this planet to experience and be OK and know we are safe feeling alive.

Step 2, Become fluent in your feelings, so many of us didn’t have a clue what we were feeling so how could we name it let alone not let us affect us ever again. Once we know it we are half way there.

When you walk into a room and feel the atmosphere

When you get triggered and know its someone playing the victim

When you feel so god damn happy you could burst.

 

Step 3 Be consistent and put yourself and how you feel first second and third. That’s a contract between you and you , your body your spirit and your mind. Learning to love all of you and turning up for yourself rather than running away and doing everything for others;

That’s part of the practice that has seen women turn 50lbs off into 100 and never go back. They are so fulfilled they no longer need to fill in the gaps and have them reaching for food, drink, cigarettes, anti depressants, over work or over sport to avoid hearing what their spirit and soul needs them to take care of so the whole of you can feel so sure of yourself that you never rock or wobble.

Play Time is an essential nutrient

Just because we’re adults, that doesn’t mean we have to take ourselves so seriously and make life all about work and achieving goals. We all need to play.

Play isn’t some trivial, dumb thing that’s just for kids. Play should be as important to you as eating greens or drinking water.

Not only does enjoying pleasure and play grow new brain connections for happier moods and better memory, play also sets off a cascade of body-positive effects that will help you to keep you slim and vital. You will literally radiate with more joy and as you do things chemically change within your body and the link between the mind and the body starts to work again.

This is what I have come to experience and learn and why I had to put this page together to specifically show you and remind you the value of changing our perception. To be kind with yourself and remember what it feels like to be in a body that wants the best for you.

What I am proposing is a more of an out of the box solution, to today’s socially accepted norms. But it is a great and successful solution none the less that has a massive effect on our cellular structure, and it can only be experienced to be believed.

Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we’ve stopped playing. Now a-days when we do carve out some down or leisure time for ourselves, we’re more likely to zone out in front of the TV or computer than engage in any type of fun, rejuvenating play like we did as children. But Adult play is a time to forget about work and commitments, and to be social in an unstructured, creative way.

So often we concentrate on things we’ve learnt about to try and feel better from what and how to eat, and what exercise to do to keep in shape feel better, forcing ourselves to follow a path that actually just does not feel good for us.

However we totally ignore any form or attitude of playfulness as an option to boost our oxygen levels, reduce stress and re set our hormones, which would actually have a massive effect on our bodies ability to function at its optimum levels.

If you run around like crazy, catering for everyone else’s needs, seeing and talking about how much we have to do, how hectic our timetables are with, work deadlines, family, children, partners all wanting something different from you, and you feel like you are being pulled in every direction. And on top of that if you feel sport is a necessary struggle, just as much as how you perceive and judge what you eat and don’t eat, this is a level of stress that is consuming you and will have very detrimental effects on our ability to let go of any weight, aches pains and health concerns that are haunting you.

 

By giving yourself permission to play with the joyful abandon of childhood, you can reap the myriad of health benefits throughout life.

Play can:

  • Relieve stress. Play is fun and can trigger the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
  • Improve brain function. Playing chess, completing puzzles, or pursuing other fun activities that challenge the brain can help prevent memory problems and improve brain function. The social interaction of playing with family and friends can also help ward off stress and depression.
  • Stimulate the mind and boost creativity. Young children often learn best when they are playing—and that principle applies to adults, as well. You’ll learn a new task better when it’s fun and you’re in a relaxed and playful mood. Play can also stimulate your imagination, helping you to adapt, be creative and problem solve.
  • Improve relationships and your connection to others. Sharing laughter and fun can foster empathy, compassion, trust, and intimacy with others. Play doesn’t have to be a specific activity; it can also be a state of mind.
  • Keep you feeling young and energetic. In the words of George Bernard Shaw, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” Playing can boost your energy and vitality and even improve your resistance to disease, helping you feel your best.
  • Improve your looks. A happy joyful face and posture is attractive to everyone, your face is beaming a smile and it will naturally attract more smiles and positive gestures and help from others.
  • Play releases hormones that activate your happy drugs to flow around the body, which in turn trigger the cells to operate in a completely different way than if your forcing yourself to do sport and exercise, or stick to a hard and fast diet or regime.
  • The science is not totally there yet but the evidence is very clear. A new attitude to your self, your body and your thoughts through adopting more play time can vastly enhance weight loss, relieve pain and tension, be more creative, get great and novel ideas,

I don’t just encourage you to get out and play more (or get in the bedroom and fool around) just because it’s a lot more fun than dragging your butt to the gym in another self-punishment workout (though it totally is).

Physical play and physical pleasure help our brains stay healthier as we age, and balances our hormones. Play keeps our neural pathways open and running smoothly, and keeps the brain “young.”

What’s crazy is how adults, especially women, have been convinced that denying, restricting, and punishing ourselves is the way to get what we want.

Science has shown that restricting, depriving, counting calories and being hyper-vigilant about food and eating has put us into a constant state of stress called “fight or flight” mode.

And when you’re in this state, your body makes more cortisol and releases more insulin. And that insulin “tells”your body not to use fat as a source of energy. Instead it says, “Hold onto that fat. We may need it later.”

So the more your body is in a stressed-out state rather than a fun, playful one, the more you encourage a biochemical state inside yourself that makes you pack on the pounds. Which is why the old way most of us were taught to lose weight is totally false.

But you know what puts an end your body’s stress state?
Enjoying Yourself.
Play.

  1. Dopamine: Everything you do or eat for pleasure produces dopamine surges in your brain. From setting and achieving goals to mind-blowing sex to holding hands or hugging, this key player in the reward system of your brain is where we get that feeling of pleasure.

 

  1. Endocannabinoids: Possibly the cause for “runner’s high,”these self-produced cannabis chemicals are created by your brain and are called the “bliss molecules,” which make movement fun, keeping us coming back for more.

 

  1. Oxytocin: “The bonding molecule”is produced from skin-to-skin contact, making love, affection, and intimacy. Playing and commiserating with a friend also releases oxytocin and bonds us with friends and lovers. It also, funnily enough, bonds us to our dogs, so cuddling and playing with your dog makes them into a loved, lifelong partner. But you dog lovers knew that already.

 

  1. Endorphins: These tiny molecules are basically self-produced morphine or opiates that have pain-killing properties. They’re generally released during strenuous physical play, sex and orgasm.

 

You can make positive steps towards your happy state to come into your own natural high—and natural weight loss—without punishing yourself. What I specifically teach you and help you to experience, is how to feel that state and maintain it. Thinking it is not enough to actually make it work for you. Quite an emotional wrap up to our sessions today for me. I went straight to the pool and swam my heart out and felt alive! (which would have been unheard of less that 4 months ago).

The Missing Nutrient that Saved the Day, and has helped me to go all the way..

I live a very special kind of life, I am grateful for all of my experiences that I have manifested and the way I have chosen to follow my healthy path, and especially how I run my business as a health and fitness partner to some really amazing people.

Yet sometimes as a health freak and wellbeing coach I get cornered, and life throws me a surprising curve ball. So it seems strange to see me opting for less than wholesome or totally un-healthy options from time to time. My companions, friends and people who meet me and who know who I am and for what I stand for, are rather flummoxed when they see me choose such unhealthy options.
Yet I am fully aware that these are my comfort foods when I am in a time of need, or when I am feeling that I am deserving more in life or for when I am just really angry and frustrated.

I am very aware of what I am doing. I have learnt that these are the times when I have not been taking care of my deepest needs. For me a quick fix to getting what is missing is comfort food, it fills a gap and temporarily gives me the feeling of being safe and home.
I am happily to say that I have uncovered my mystery of how to fulfill my own deepest needs, and when I do these comfort foods are not even an option for me any more.

I am so passionate about it and have personally seen what a difference it has made to me, as well as a small section of my community, that I want to share this with you.

Last year I made some rather large decisions in my life, which has resulted in some rather difficult stuff for me to face, acknowledge and let go of and be OK with.

One thing came out from all of this which is a big pattern for me, and that is as much as I love my health and my zealous route to health via Detoxing, cleansing, fasting, Raw and alkalizing food, yoga and natural products, something HUGE was still missing. As I went in search of this BIG missing item I have discovered myself anew.

One of the reasons I do my regular detoxes and keep to my major pure and Raw food diet was to give me more energy and stay healthy. I had both of my children in my 40’s and I decided then and there I wanted and needed to stay active for them as they grew and wanted to run and play more. I did not want to be left behind as they became teenagers. So I got busy with my diet and found increasingly new ways of how to detox the body, I saw and felt massive improvements and wanted more of these feelings. Did you know that being so concentrated on what’s healthy actually has an official name which is Orthorexia. (is an obsession with eating a “pure” diet, which usually entails avoiding foods with artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, unhealthy fats, added sugar or salt, and genetic modification)

I was keeping to my path of healthy eating and taking my Yoga classes walking and taking care of myself or so I thought, but and here’s the rub I felt that I was deserving something else, much more. I was exhausted and was still striving for my fullest energy. What could be more satisfying than a healthy body and energy to spare? That concept had taken me so far but I soon realised I was not nourishing myself at all. I was working hard and building my health business, caring for my children and family, maintaining my house, pets and the garden, well just about coping actually if the truth be known, but I felt tired and drained and was feeling I had to force myself to stay on track. When all I craved was some comfort, and my chosen habitual comfort foods.

Two years ago I hit an emotional wall and I discovered that I needed more time for myself, so I started to take time out for walks, quiet river time, meditation, all that was good but I still missed something, where’s the fun? Where’s the adventure? I need to be cheeky and take some risks and have some thrills if I am to stay alive, I mean really alive. I felt stagnant and well to be honest I did not take care of my other needs that well either. I missed my appointments with myself to take time out from the office, or book a massage, or sit in the garden and read. I heard myself saying to myself “that’s all well and good, but I need to work now, who else will bring in the money we need?”. Don’t get me wrong I really get great satisfaction from my work and seeing my clients flourish. So I though that was more than enough for me, along with my very healthy lifestyle.

However I was left feeling unfulfilled and what do we do when we are unfulfilled? We look for ways to fill ourselves up. Now anyone who knows me, knows of my addiction to crisps. I took some time to contemplate this question and I asked myself why I needed the crisps ? it was a clear message that I heard, :”Because I deserve them, I have been working so hard and caring for everyone else, where is my treat?, I need a treat.”
What I have found is that by connecting with my self, and listening to my body in the special ways that I use and that I can easily teach you, I can finally see and understand what was missing.
I have learnt that as I take care of me and I mean really take care of me on every level, in all aspects of my life, my craving and need for filling myself up with something naughty like crisps or to go on a shopping spree for this elusive items that just adds to my wardrobe has diminished. My healthy appetite for pure natural foods have been restored and I have discovered that I can relax more and be happier. I have more energy for the things I want to do and I really know what it is that I desire in every sense of the word, and what’s more I can allow myself to receive it in every day.

My passion is re newed as I have allowed my self my missing nutrient, and in my case it is exhilaration and thrills, and I have researched how I get these the most and added them in to my life, eg: horse riding, running, anything with speed and excitement and a little danger too, this makes me feel really, really alive.
Everyone has there own special nutrient and I am so happy that I have found mine it has changed everything for me, Now that mine is overflowing I am happy to watch you reach your true potential as I have. By partnering with you, I can quickly guide you to find what it is that you really need to be fulfilled, so that comfort eating is a thing of the past. I will teach you how to change what and how you eat forever. This is only really possible and sustainable once you have discovered what it is that you need on a deeper more satisfying level.

No amount of salads and green juices will get you to where you want unless you are fulfilled and finding your food and your life a pleasure. If your food is not a pleasure you will be looking elsewhere until you can feel full up. You know the search and drama that happens as you look into your fridge and cupboards late at night for something to fill the gap. But is it food that you really need? NO….

Detox opens me up to my emotions?

This has been a question that has made me very curious for a long time. I’ve known for a long time that it is well recognized that it happens, that food has a way to numb our feelings and that we use food for so many emotional and comfort reasons, but what intrigued me was, how can I adapt and live with my emotional and eating patterns, when I know what to do but help me I sometimes cannot control my cravings. They do not go away entirely, and as I clean up my diet they continue to show up and help me to be aware of my reactions and responses to situations and how I see myself. So I have to say a big fat Thank You to the fact that my need for comfort eating was in fact asking me to listen and see what I was and am actually doing.

A detox opens you up to yourself to be more aware of yourself.

A detox be that a juice fast, a colon cleanse, a raw food diet has cleaned you up raised your vibration and has taken away the heavy lower vibration foods that slow us down and slow down our mind. Food is used to numb our senses and detach us from our heart and what the body is desperate to let us hear and feel.
A detox including a short fast is the best way that I know of to get you to into a safe place where we willingly start to listen. When we stop digesting food we have the down time to re evaluate, re charge and reset all of our systems. It is one of the best ways I know to really take care of myself. And I have seen it over the past 7 years watching wildly different people get clarity and understand themselves better.

So when I was able to learn more about this I jumped at the chance to further my own investigations and to be of better service to you and have some more fun around food. I hear the same or very similar stories, time and time again. Questions and curiosities about food being your drug of choice, and how can we learn to live with it and overcome the overeating cravings. It’s all so, so serious out there, that I am happy to play with this subject for as long as it takes. I will experiment and continue to coach and run workshops around this subject and help you to get clarity for yourself about what food is calling you to really see and feel.
So to all us over eaters, binge eaters, controlled eaters and all the rest of the comfort eater types, I want you to know that I will be slowly leading you down a path of self discovery.

It is way bigger than the food we eat and how we eat and even bigger than the when and why we eat. It’s a huge subject that has got my attention and my passion rising.
Everyone has to eat, and so we cant avoid food all together. Even if we have found raw food and juices and are really healthy most of us still use food in some way and as a way to sedate ourselves, and that’s OK if we are first aware of why and what we are doing. This is just Step One.

Deeper would be to see that food and our relationship with food is a mirror of how we react in just about every relationship we have.

Its not enough to know where the patterns originated, but to go further still would be to re connect with your body so that it can personally tell you, and so that you can hear and feel when you are stressed and would normally use food as your only tool to de stress and comfort the situation.

But first wouldn’t it be great fun to suspend all of our beliefs around food, what’s good, bad, healthy, what he or she thinks are the best superfoods ever or the best diet for everyone. We are all different and we were all educated, and brought up differently, how to be with and around food, our understanding of etiquette and manners, and as we are all different we want to be fulfilled quite differently as well.

No one diet fits all.

So then we have to take responsibility for ourselves, our health, our own likes and dislikes, listen to what our bodies tell us when we eat something, or in a situation that is difficult or extreme. So experimentation and discovering is what’s called for, to go on an adventure with the food and the mood you eat in.

In daily life it’s common that we don’t ask ourselves how we feel at every turn, how did that affect me, how did that situation make me feel, so when we get a chance for the quiet time we begin to feel. For most of us that would be in the evening, when we are alone, for me when the children have gone to bed. We are alone at last and the body and heart are so happy to get our full attention, the information about the day begins to  literally flood in. There is no volume control or speed control its just a huge Woosh, and its actually very difficult to take it all in, overwhelming is a good way to describe it. So to slow down this stored reservoir of information and feelings we choose an addiction. One of the safest is food, others are drink, gambling, shopping, any form of distraction that gets you to relax and not feel the situation. Workaholics are often not aware that this too is part of their addiction pattern.
The body wants to be heard and if we don’t take time to hear it then it will make us stop and listen, accidents happen, illnesses, viruses, burnouts and situations out of our control will manifest Into our lives.

I had a telephone client recently who was using food as her nourishment and comfort but she did not know why. She wanted help to shop her habit of emptying the fridge and a wine bottle once she returned home, as the consequences were that she had gained weight and wanted to lose it and she was exhausted all the time.

The discomfort for her had reached a pinnacle point and she knew she needed help. We resolved that when she was able to feel into her body and she recognized that she needed stronger boundaries. All day long she would help out and take on more work that was her job, and she was giving away her power.
We worked on her expressing herself better with some fun exercises that we did together and we worked on expressing her anger and frustration. She can now vent her anger in a really healthy way when her boundaries have been crossed, and when she communicates she can do so from a safe place and now she feels heard and respected and especially that she is able to articulate what she wants to say.

She explains that “I can now stand up for myself and I am so proud of the way I can tell someone what I want and need. I have never felt that I can feel into my body when it’s hurt or angry, I have learned how to relax and I know what I can do. I am still learning but I feel so happy with my experiment so far. My eating is much, much better as  have realistic boundaries that I have chosen to respect, Oh and I am looking for a new job.”

A detox will open you up to be more aware and conscious of yourself. You have given your body a great and long-awaited opportunity to tell you and speak to you about what S/he needs. We need only to learn how to listen.
